Teams have all sorts of sneaky plans to destabilize dominant scrums. I reckon the team with the best record on their own put in - when the other team has less opportunity to make a mess of things - probably has the best scrum

What i dislike about scrums: the penalty advantage whenever a team wins the ball. If the ball is available just play it. A full arm penalty is not needed simply because a team struggled to win

Once upon a time (when the sport was amateur) referees would award a penalty if the ball was not put in straight to the scrum. Hooker, so named for their primary skill of hooking the ball backwards towards their own team with their feet were the only player allowed to touch the ball initially. Modern scrummaging is a mockery. The referees ignore the rules by because they can’t be bothered to do their job. Suspect this is because many spectators couldn’t make sense of what was going on. So the analysis of scrummaging misses the core issue that no one scrummages properly these days.

One of the big thing about scrums is the poor way tv covers them. Its drama if you zoom in but instead they zoom out. You miss the wrestle.

Depends what the objective is, tire out the opposition aerobically by speeding up the game or tire out the forwards anaerobicaly by contending the scrum.

I haven't watched the video yet, I probably know how he could potentially argue against the boks so i will come back if my mind is changed 😂 But it has to be the springboks i promise you it is the boks, modern non South African and mainly European refs do not blow the scrums correctly instead they let scrums play out because the ball is available. When they should be giving penalties. Infact some refs i have seen literally only look too see if the ball is available, their eyes dont even look at the scrum they only look at the back of the scrum. Ive seen and can remember plenty of occasions springboks should have had penalties but due to the ball being available they didn't get the penalty so that can affect stats

I played for Canada ..fact is all our best athletes play hockey when young then switch to rugby or other sports at 18 years old..

we also have to look at the opponents faced. Fiji don't play tier 1 nations always. the boks dominates every team in the scrum doesn't matter the previous stats. we as south africans don't care what you did to your opponent, we want to destroy you. we see you as a man and ourselves as superior beings who defies all logic and sense. we make you fear us as we live in a dangerous country, your soyboys cant harm us more than ordinary life harms us. were just built different.
